Late Classic Period, Circa 550 to 950 AD

Painted vase decorated with two handsome youthful male figures from the Popol Vul, sitting cross-legged, leaning forward to present a large plate laden with offerings and wearing a thin belt and a headgear with the representation of the head of the monster Cauac. Each scene is divided by bright orange patterns and a band of repeated glyphs frames the neck of the vase.

Size: 7-1/4 inches (18.3 cm. ) Height.   A fine example with vibrant colors and excellent brushwork. Some wear to surface and drill holes from an ancient repair.

Provenance: Ex Orlando Fl private collector, acquired at Christie's Paris, 12 June 2003, Sale 5057 Africa, Oceanic & Pre Columbian lot 611.
