Lovely decorated pottery ritual cylinder vase decorated on exterior with  a well rendered hieroglyphic inscription consisting of a ‘Primary Standard Sequence’. Body decorated with orange painted horizontal and vertical bands to imitate wood or basket weave. Overall scattered strong root marks and mineral deposits. A nice example.

The PSS (Primary Standard Sequence) in Maya cylinder vessels refers to a dedicatory hieroglyphic text sequence that typically appears around the rim or upper portion of Classic-period ceramics. The PSS identifies the vessel's type, its intended contents (often cacao or other beverages), the owner's name, and sometimes the scribe or artist who made it
