Western Asia ca. 1st Millennium BC

Small solid-cast bronze figure of a standing goat in profile. The horns are short and stubby, a small beard is shown under the chin, and the tail is short and upturned. The body is simplified, and the legs are joined front and back by a flat ground-line bar, leaving an open space beneath the belly. Probably an amulet or votive figure; the opening may have taken a cord. There is a dark olive-green patina with buff earthen deposits and light wear to the high points. Mounted on a black wooden base, which has a small inked mark at one corner.

Size: 1 inch (2.5 cm) W. x 1 inch (2.5 cm) H. x ½ inch (1.3 cm) L. + custom base.
