Treveri (Trier) mint, circa 375–378 A.D., (4.46 g), 21 mm.
Obverse: DN GRATIANVS PF AVG, rosette‑diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Gratian right, presenting the young emperor in full military regalia as a victorious ruler. Reverse: VICTORIA AVGG / TR OB T, Gratian and co‑emperor Valens enthroned side by side, each holding a globe between them while the winged figure of Victory stands behind with outspread wings and a palm branch at their feet, proclaiming joint imperial victory and harmony between the western and eastern courts. Struck on a broad, well‑centered flan with sharp detail in the portrait and enthroned figures and bright gold surfaces with only light circulation wear, this solidus functioned both as high‑value imperial payment and as portable propaganda reinforcing the legitimacy of the co‑emperors.
