A cast bronze flame finial from Thailand or mainland Southeast Asia, rendered as stylized tongues of fire rising from a tulip-form lotus cup with a central teardrop bud, terminating in an integral iron tang for mounting. Such finials typically crowned ceremonial staffs, palanquin fittings, temple furniture, or reliquary elements in Buddhist contexts.  The flame (Thai: plaeo) is among the most powerful symbols in Southeast Asian Buddhist art. The motif appears atop Buddha images (the ushnisha flame), stupa finials, and votive objects throughout Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. 

Size: 4-1/4 inches H. (plus custom mount)

Condition: Excellent; stable surface with attractive cuprite and malachite encrustations; original tang intact.

Flame finials of this scale and quality are uncommon on the market. The crisp modeling of the petals and the preserved bud at the center make this a particularly desirable study piece for collectors of Buddhist and Asian devotional bronzes.
