San Carlos or White Mountain Apache, Arizona, circa 1900–1920

Coiled over a three-rod willow foundation and stitched in willow and black devil's claw, the shallow, flaring bowl centered on a dark devil's claw hub from which radiates a crisp eight-pointed star executed in the classic Apache stepped or serrated outline, the field beyond filled with a lively band of interlocking chevrons and stacked triangular zigzags that carry the design outward to a dark, evenly stitched rim. The willow has taken on the warm honey-gold patina prized in old Apache work, and the devil's claw remains rich and glossy black with no notable fading, the coiling is tight and regular throughout with no losses to the rim or repairs visible, and a faint old inventory number is inked near the center on the interior, suggesting a documented private or dealer collection history.
