XIth through XIIIth Dynasty, ca. 2030 to 1650 B.C.

A travertine (alabaster) ovoid jar, carved from a single block with rounded shoulder, slightly tapering sides and flat base, the short neck with thick everted rim and generously hollowed interior; the surface showing warm honey‑buff and cream banding with mineral inclusions and encrusted burial deposits, the stone smoothed but not highly polished, interior with clear rotary‑tool striations consistent with ancient manufacture, rim restoration and small chips, otherwise intact.   The rather thick walls, broad ovoid body with only a slight shoulder break, and simple everted rim are all very comfortable in Old–Middle Kingdom stone‑vase typologies, whereas Late Period jars more often show straighter, more cylindrical walls, sharper shoulders, and neater, thinner rims. The internal drilling on yours also looks relatively wide and coarse rather than the narrower, more precise Late Period drilling one often sees
